I finally had some free time to go down and check out the all-new Gladiator. It’s a very nice truck! I’ve spent a lot of time around the JL Wrangler and it came to no surprise that the Gladiator feels almost identical to it. This isn’t a bad thing, the new JL is a great product and all the positives follow over to the Gladiator.
The increased wheelbase does lead to a smoother ride compared to the Wrangler. Speaking of the increased length, in true midsize fashion, this truck never felt large or difficult to manage. Parking was easy enough even with the increased length. Rear legroom is excellent for the class and should be a good selling feature.
I think this will be a good product for FCA. The price is hard to swallow on these higher option variants (this Overland MSRP was 54k), but I bet lower equipped models will sell without issue. Although I was initially quite excited about the Gladiator, my expectations were brought back to normal after checking it out - it’s a capable, comfortable Wrangler truck.
I like Jeeps but this baby is a lot more my style. It sounded fantastic and is too fast!

Nice...I’m sorta in the market for a small truck, but they all seem pretty pricey IMO (the old “I could have a full size for $2k more” conundrum).
But the Gladiator’s rear legroom could be a gamechanger for me — I want something I can drive for 8- 10 years and maybe bequeath to my son...and it still be a “cool car” (yes, this is a valid form of planning ahead!).
I still need to check one out in person, but I’ve had a soft spot for Wranglers for a long time.

Wow! That gladiator is 54k? Those trucks are outrageous.
Obviously I would get one if I had the means, let’s not kid ourselves here. But sheesh!
Also: that Corvette is NASTY. WANT

Yeah the price is a bit crazy to me! Our Wrangler is 61 and I just can’t imagine spending that much coin on one. It will be interesting to see how they sell.
I’m not a huge Corvette guy, but that Z06 is amazing!

I love driving mid sizers but don’t think I’d buy one due to cabin size. Going from a new Ram to this..I’d rather be in the Ram everyday. However, like you said, the cool factor is strong with the Gladiator. What other truck could you drop the top with the family on Saturday and haul mulch on Sunday. I think it will do well because of that.

Completely agree.

economics of scale. make more of something charge... more for it per
unit? margins on these has to be great

Yeah I have to imagine the margins are good. Interesting enough our basic 2 door Wranglers haven’t been selling, some approaching a year on the lot, yet high spec 4-doors usually don’t stick around too long. I wonder how this will be with the Gladiator.

List price on a 2 door JL Sport S here is AU$54k. 4 door Sport S is AU$58.5k. Overland 4 door is AU$68.6k. The Rubicon 4 door is either AU$69.5k (petrol) or AU$75k (diesel).
Given how the Gladiator is priced over there...the entry price here is going to be deep into premium mid size ute territory (V6 TDi Amarok, Ranger Raptor) and top out well into or over Land Cruiser 200 series ( let alone 75 Series) . Jeep Oz are going to struggle with that .

WhY Not buIld aTwo dOor GlaDiatOr JeeP?!
this is why

given Jeeps
fanaticism
here is what makes this pricing
possible and knowing that Jeep doesn’t enjoy the same rep there... yes i can see that being an issue.

$143/mo lease deals though. Jeep’s really drinking their own coolaid this time around, thinking the Gladiator is going to hold 90% of its value after 2 years.

probably not wrong though

Really hope the cash the Gladiator brings to FCA (I know it will be a lot ) helps them get their shit together with build quality, durability and Maserati.

I’ve done about a 4 hour stint in the back seat no problem. 5'10", more than enough leg room to be comfy. They are nice places to be.
